With the exception of our 2 “Warehouse Sale” events, which generally take place in June and November. Check our website for upcoming dates.

We would sincerely love to hold our event in Montreal, but as the name suggests, a warehouse sale requires a warehouse. On top of that, it takes a team! The Canabec plant and team are based in St-Augustin-de-Desmaures in the Quebec City region.

Check our website, subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on Facebook to receive information about the event. The events generally take place in June and November. Official dates will be announced approximately one month before the event.

Canabec does not “hunt” its game. Deer, elk, bison, rabbit and guinea fowl, to name just a few, come from farms with high quality standards.

The species are processed in a federally inspected slaughterhouse under the rules of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

This refers to Chronic Wasting Disease. On this matter, all deer are tested individually and directly at the slaughterhouse for this disease. They are only released once the tests are confirmed negative. No carrier animal could be processed and sold commercially.

Deer, affectionately called “chevreuil” in Quebec, does not have a strong taste!

There are several species of cervids. It is important to differentiate between White-tailed Deer and Red Deer.

White-tailed Deer is the one found in our forests, woodlands, on golf courses and on the road! It is also the one hunted in Quebec.

Red Deer is the variety used for farming. It does not exist in the wild in Quebec. It is raised in large enclosures, almost free-range. It eats a special mix of feed and forage and depending on the season will have access to fruits, berries and vegetation.

The “strong” or “ferrous” taste that some fear is not present in farmed deer. The strong taste of White-tailed Deer, “chevreuil” or moose meat can come from several factors: the time of year it is hunted (the “rut”), the advanced age of the animal, the way it was field-dressed by the hunter, and finally the storage conditions, such as temperature and hygiene during transport, aging and preparation of the meat. In the case of farmed Red Deer prepared by Canabec, the entire chain is perfectly controlled to ensure a first-rate quality meat that meets the expectations of the most discerning food lovers.

Under normal refrigeration conditions, the shelf life of a product after opening its packaging varies depending on the product type:

  • Pâtés, cretons, mousses and terrines: 2 to 4 days
  • Sausages: 2 to 4 days
  • Confit meats: 2 to 4 days

Our company does not offer discount coupons. We are however committed to offering our products at fair and competitive prices. We invite you to regularly check the flyers of grocery stores in your area, as our products are often advertised there at very attractive prices.

Although most of our products are available in the majority of major supermarket chains in Quebec, it is possible that your retailer does not carry the product you are looking for. It is important to know that each store orders independently based on its customers’ needs, and that some of our items are only available in certain chains. If you cannot find the product you are looking for at your grocery store, simply make the request to the manager of the relevant department.
